By transplanting stem cells into the damaged part of a person's brain or body, scientists hope to replace tissue that has been lost.

Stem cells could come from embryos, cloned embryos, or perhaps from a fully grown adult. Using a cloned human embryo would have the advantage that it contains only the patient's DNA. This means the stem cell transplant would not be rejected.
